Sometime in 2009 I was approached by Maskinen on behalf of Walt Disney to create an event for the release of the new Tron: Legacy movie. I was living in a houseboat back then so my office was the local pub, where I created everything that ended up in the final product; a light and music event at Solli Plass in Oslo.
Most of my early pitches were completely based on the style and aesthetic of the first movie, as there was a complete blackout on anything related to the sequel. I drew plans for laser harps, from my physical computing and sound installation background, and decoration for Oslo tube carriages, which felt like a more straight forward but expensive idea. The laser harp, a monstrosity of arduino and max/msp almost became the winning pitch, and I worked on it for a few months, before we finally landed on taking over the windows of an entire building and animating it to music.
as head of creative on this project, on top of the composition and final sound design, I managed the light crews, sent updates, and lots in between.
with no idea what the movie would be about, I riffed on the nostalgia of the first movie, interpsersed with some energy from the then released Daft Punk single from the soundtrack. I was working with so much media blackout from Disney that in the end I had to buy my own copy of this single to remix while waiting for Disney to send me the proper file.
Most of the sounds are samples, although there are a fair amount of electroacoustic creations and spectral editing. I was using mostly CSOUND/Cecilia and SuperCollider for synthesis and spectrial editing, and Logic Pro for everything else.

Me namedropping Stockhausen to explain myself to NRK.
